Cycling Performance Squad (CPS) was established in November 2018, to provide a full programme of coaching, development opportunities and race support for male and female junior cyclists. The team is built upon a foundation of coaching and education that is much needed to prepare the riders not only to compete at National Junior Level, but also to allow them to explore the possibility of a future career in the sport. In August 2019, a merger with Ribble Pro Cycling's junior team, (Team Ribble) created the new Ribble Cycling Performance Squad ready for the 2020 season.
Each rider on the team is provided with 1-2-1 coaching of the highest standard which is provided by the team's coaches and overseen by the head coach and team manager, Dan Small. Training is fully flexible and prescribed specifically for the needs of each individual rider. Riders have access to regular weekend training camps which include workshops on a wide range of topics such as nutrition, psychology, race prep, pedaling efficiency and race tactics. In addition to the regular weekend training camps the team also delivers week-long training camps in Mallorca and provides a fully supported National race calendar. A team manager, mechanic and team car are present at all National road events, and opportunities to race in Europe are also provided.
The number of riders taking up cycling as a sport in the UK is growing exponentially. With this growth in uptake, the pool of talented young athletes, moving up from the well supported Youth (U14/U16) network of clubs and NGB support to the Junior (16-18) age category is ever increasing. Whilst there is a large amount of support from the sport’s governing body at Youth level, only a very small number of these riders are selected to receive support in the Junior age category. For the vast majority, there are limited options to develop in an environment which includes coaching, mentoring, training camps, facility access and race support. Without this much needed support, many of these riders fall away from the sport, and in most cases long before they have had a chance to fully develop and explore their potential.
Ribble Cycling Performance Squad provides support to some of these talented Juniors to allow them to continue to grow and evolve as bike racers in a fully supportive environment, and potentially pursue careers as professional cyclists.
This young, ambitious team would be extremely grateful for any support you may be able to provide. The team has a GoFundMe page (link below) for any individuals wishing to make a donation.
